Polar Plungers redefine the word ‘cold’

Think it has been cold this week? There are a few Greeks on campus who would beg to differ.

They’ve experienced cold. And to them, this must seem like a heat wave.

A team of RIT students, all from Greek organizations, took the Polar Plunge Feb. 11. They dove into the frigid water of Lake Ontario in the name of charity.

The Democrat and Chronicle reported that the water was 34 degrees when they took the plunge. The air temperature was just below 20 degrees.

Not only did the RIT students raise more than $3,000 for the 3,200 Special Olympics athletes in New York’s Genesee region, but their participation earned them the “Cool School” award for having more participants than any other school in the region.
