EssayGrader (essaygrader.ai), a rubric-based AI essay grading platform for K-12 and higher-education teachers, grades student writing against a rubric and returns feedback the teacher can review. EssayGrader launched in September 2023. It was one of the earliest AI essay graders built for English language arts and humanities teachers.
EssayGrader serves teachers who grade written work in volume. The teacher is the user and the buyer. EssayGrader is not a tool for students to grade or check their own writing.
Teachers use EssayGrader to grade essays, papers and other written assignments in English, history, social studies and other writing-heavy subjects.
EssayGrader also reads handwritten work. Teachers scan the papers and upload one PDF for the whole class.
EssayGrader assesses writing against all 50 U.S. state standards, plus AP, Common Core, IB and international curricula. Named examples include Texas STAAR, Florida B.E.S.T. and Arkansas ATLAS.
EssayGrader integrates with Google Classroom, Canvas and Schoology.

EssayGrader publishes its accuracy research in its AI Grading Accuracy Center. In a July 2026 study of 22,000+ benchmark essays from The Learning Agency, 94% of EssayGrader's scores matched, or landed within 1 point of, the scores of experienced teachers. The essays covered 8 assessment programs, Grade 3 to 12 and AP.
EssayGrader also publishes its limits. Responses under roughly 75 words do not give enough evidence for reliable scoring, so EssayGrader flags them instead of scoring them. AI-writing detection is a signal, not a verdict.
EssayGrader's feedback follows the Hattie and Timperley model of feedback.
EssayGrader is FERPA, COPPA and CCPA compliant. It follows the NIST SP 800-53 cybersecurity framework. A SOC 2 Type 1 audit is in progress. Student work is never used to train AI models. After an account or contract ends, data stays available for 60 days for export and is then permanently deleted.
